Extruded Tubing Materials
When deciding on the proper material to fabricate your extruded tubing in many factors need to be accessed. PPG offers many choices when it comes to materials. Our engineers can sit down with your designers and work together on the correct solution for your needs. Here are the highlights on popular materials and their generic properties.
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is used in environments where exposure to outside elements doesn’t occur. A rigid, versatile, and high-impact plastic, it offers expectable chemical resistance to most non-aromatic compounds. ABS has a durable satin finish is scratch resistant, and excellent for applications where cosmetic appeal is desired.
High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) is a rigid, economical, light-weight plastic with good impact strength and low moisture absorption. Its inherent properties make ideal for thermo formable applications. HIPS typically has a flat finish.
Polyethylene (PE) is very common multi-purpose material used in a wide range of applications. Its durability ranges from flexible (LDPE) to semi-rigid (HDPE). Available in FDA and industrial grades this very economical material has numerous applications.
Polypropylene (PP) is a semi-rigid, light weight, and economical plastic with excellent chemical resistance and a fairly high service temperature. Polypropylene is available in natural (translucent white), standard, and custom colors.
